Game 1: Red Wings vs. Lightning – Goalie Make-it Break-it

For all intents and purposes, Tampa Bay should win Game 1 against the Detroit Red Wings. But they won’t.

Sure the Lightning have home-ice advantage and the astrological deck is stacked in their favor Wednesday night. Moon in Cancer and Moon Sextile Jupiter are both creating a much-needed kickstart for the Sagittarius-heavy Tampa Bay team but they’ve got two small problems:

  1. Goalkeeping
  2. A Detroit team with nothing to lose

Here’s How This Weird Night Will Unfold

Wednesday night the Red Wings’ offense is oozing confidence and isn’t going to let Tampa Bay ruffle their feathers. While Tampa Bay will feel the need to come out strong, the Red Wings will have more patience and let Tampa Bay show their offensive hand early. Detroit’s Head Coach Jeff Blashill, a Sagittarius, will be key in keeping his team focused on playing one shift at a time and more importantly with emotionally confident heads.

Henrik Zetterberg, Riley Sheahan and Tomas Tatar will be playing at the top of their games. They will feel inspired and attract lucky opportunities. Even the shortest possession is fair game for these guys.  Pavel Datsyuk is especially charged as he’s a Cancer and Wednesday’s Moon in Cancer means he’ll be particularly inspired and ready to put on a show.

The Lightning offense will have its share of showboating on Wednesday night.  In addition to some stellar defensive plays, look for J.T. Brown, a Cancer, and Brian Boyle and Vladislav Namestnikov to be making bold moves. What could flip this game upside is if Tampa Bay can “poke the bear” a bit… and by that we mean these Detroit bears: Niklas Kronwall and Alexey Marchenko. Wednesday night it will be particularly hard for these two to shake-off Tampa Bay’s in-your-face playing. They may quickly become frustrated and make selfish plays due to a Moon Quincunx Saturn earlier that morning.

Tampa Bay’s defense will feel pretty solid tonight. Thanks to positive lunar influences, Matthew Carle, Victor Hedman, and Andrej Sustr are eager to strut their stuff in their own barn. Playing to the crowd they will put on a show.

But again, even with both teams determined to outplay the other, this game has a high probability of being decided by goalies.

Coaching and Goalies

So this is where the rubber hits the road. Tampa Bay is at home and life should be good. One problem… Ben Bishop. We love him. The fans love him. He’s tall and handsome. And he’s playing well. But unfortunately, Wednesday he’s gonna have a hard time focusing. He’ll go in with a plan but struggle to execute — getting lost in his own head.

Should coach Jon Cooper, a perfectionist Virgo, decide to tap him out and put in Andrei Vasilevskiy, he may have better luck, but even Vasilevskiy will struggle as a fiery Leo. He will most likely come in too amped up to handle the patient Red Wing forwards.

So with that said… How will Jimmy Howard do? Well, he’ll show up ready to play, but like Vasilevskiy, he may come in too fired up and struggle with the Lightning’s hometown confidence and emotional play. However, he has the experience to keep his composure and most likely won’t mentally give up.  If Blashill is at all tuned into the universe, he’d sense that Petr Mrazek, an Aquarius, would perform significantly worse tonight due to a stifling moon aspect.  Blashill best move is to ride out the night with Jimmy Howard.

So Tell Me Again… Who Wins?

Detroit will take the win Wednesday.  They will do this by pushing Ben Bishop’s buttons and challenging him to stay focused on a night when even he can’t help his Scorpio distracted emotions! Also Detroit’s going to create their own good luck in the forms of careful checks, favorable calls and opportunistic goals.
